Hello Greens all over the world and those who support the core Green principle of Environmental sustainability! I know that Green activists in different parts of the world have different focus but with one universal aim of protecting and sustaining planet Earth. I wish to inform you that in Africa also, we are not relenting in our efforts to bringing about a greener and healthier world. Several organizations are working tirelessly to propagating the Green principles. Among such organizations is the Center for Development Support Initiatives (CEDSI-Nigeria, www.cedsinigeria.org) with several awards to her credit. The predictable adverse consequences of climate change in Nigeria and Africa in general, cannot be over emphasized, with a population of over 140 million spread over a land area of 924,000sqkm; we remain amongst the vulnerable to the impact of climate change.
Currently, evidences of climate change explicitly occur in our daily activities e.g. the incessant flooding, increased temperature, desertification and many more. A basic factor of global warming, gas flaring has placed some regions of Africa e.g. the Niger-Delta region in Nigeria in a most vulnerable of positions and if action is not taken now, we stand to loose the tomorrow for our children as till date, most Nigerians have little knowledge about the nature of climate and implication of climate change. Center for Development support Initiatives, a Non-Governmental Organization working on environmental and sustainable development issues in the Niger-Delta Region of Nigeria, plans to be the foremost institution successfully contributing towards combating the adverse effects of climate change.
Our vision is to improve sustainable livelihood and combat climate change through the application of integrated and innovative approaches to training delivery and researches while empowering communities to influence the design and development of effective local strategies to reduce Green House Gas emissions and ensure its implantation at local levels in the promotion of equity and sustainable development.
To achieve our objectives, CEDSI Nigeria engages in several programs and activities, such as: West African Network on Climate change, Eco- Green initiative on Climate change, Gender policy and Climate change project and many more. Our universal aim is to think globally while acting locally.Long Live the Greens!!!
